Revenues for the top 50 fell -10% last year to US$ 163 billion after a
downturn in the globalmining industry, the continued slowdown inChina
and the depreciation of the JapaneseYen took their toll.
In terms of rankings, the global no.1 and no.2, Caterpillar andKomatsu,
wereunchanged from last year andVolvoConstructionEquipment swapped
placeswithHitachi to take thirdplace.Meanwhile, Liebherr andTerex each
movedup twoplaces tono. 5 andno. 6 respectively, as Zoomlion and Sany
felt the impact of their falling domesticChinesemarket.
Thedownturn intheglobalmining industrypulledrevenuesdownformany
earthmoving equipmentmanufacturers last year.Meanwhile, the slowdown
inChina had an impact across the domestic construction equipment sector.
Besides the falls for Zoomlion and Sany, Lonking, XGMA andChenggong
also lost places on the ranking. XCMG, Liugong and Sunward held their
ground, and Shantui was the only Chinese manufacturer to improve its
standing

Rental
Exhibition (IRE) in Amsterdam,
the Netherlands, has sold out its
initial space allocation at the RAI
exhibition centre. Readers are
encouraged to register in advance to
attend the show for free, avoiding
the on-the-day entrance charge
of € 20 (US$ 27).
The exhibition takes place on
24-26 June, at the same venue
and days as the European Rental
Association (ERA) Convention,
as well as the APEX aerial
platform exhibition – a preview
of all three events can be found on
page 57.
