ore than 700 visitors and 80
exhibitors ensured a record
gathering for the Deutscher
Abbruchverband’s annual Berlin Demolition
conference. Originally established by Dr
Dieter Korth and his organisation ASCO, the
event, now in its 20th year, is organised by the
Deutscher Abbruchverband, who formally
took over the event in 2011.
As is traditionally the case with this event,
a packed technical programme say more than
20 presentations being made to the audience,
composed primarily from demolition
professionals for the German speaking
countries, covering a range of topics including
environmental, legislative, and economic
factors, as well as a mix of project
reports on some of the more
challenging demolition projects
carried out in recent months.
The usual ‘Frei Bier’ evening
at the Alt Pump allowed the
delegates to mingle and network
in a relaxed and convivial
atmosphere.
The ‘Alt Pump’ provided a relaxing
venue for the after event networking
sessions, as well as the ‘free beer’ of

Deconstruction
the theme for
the EDA
June 12 to 14 will see the EDA annual
conference take place in Madrid, Spain,
at the Hotel Intercontinental Madrid. The
theme of the event is ‘Deconstruction’, with
a total of 14 presentations to be made on
Friday 13 June, covering a range of topics
related to the demolition sector. According
to the EDA: “The demolition industry is
about handling the space change, taking
care of the needs and/or requirements
of the customer to leave an empty space.
To do so, we need to work together with
other industries so deeply connected to
the demolition, as part of what is now
called deconstruction: hazardous waste
decontamination, concrete sawing and
drilling, dismantling, decommissioning,
demolition, preparation for recycling,
recycling.”
“These activities are all connected,
being ourselves (the demolition industry)
an important actor to all of them. EDA is
inviting all these industries to celebrate
together an open conference and debate
sessions about our work together.”
The presentations range from practical
demolition case studies, such as the AfE
Tower demolition in Frankfurt, through to
others covering concrete cutting, market
evaluations, waste recycling and hazardous
waste handling.
NDA updates website
The National Demolition Association has
announced that its new website, designed with
improved user friendly features, streamlined
content and mobile response to allow access
from desktop computers, tablets and mobile
telephones, has gone live. It can be accessed via
.
According to the NDA, visitors to the
site will find clear navigation clues to assist
them to rapidly find what they need, with
information no more than three clicks away.
Access for members is through a members-
only portal that “delivers a more enhanced
viewing experience, giving them access to
information not available to general visitors”.
The members section is now integrated into
the main website rather than as a separate site
as in the past.
According to director of member services
Kim Wieland: ““The new NDA website was
designed with NDA members – and the
many publics we serve – in mind. In the
development phase, we worked with our
members to learn what was most important
to them. The goal was to make the site
convenient to use, as well as a reflection of
NDA’s role as the global source of ‘all things
demolition.”
