can announce
that further speakers
have confirmed their
willingness to speak at the 2014
World Demolition Summit in
Amsterdam on November 6,
2014.
The simultaneous implosion
of five Red Road tower blocks
in Glasgow by Safedem will
be the subject of an explosive
presentation. Originally
scheduled as part of the
opening ceremony for the 2014
Commonwealth Games in that
city, the blowdown is now to be
rescheduled but will take place
prior to the Summit.
Safedem’s managing director
and current president of the
NFDC William Sinclair will
discuss the challenges the project
presented and how they were
overcome - including the political
ones, no doubt.
A further presentation will be
a first, as far as
D&Ri
is aware,
for any event in Europe or North
America, with US contractor
ERM aiming to present an outline
of the demolition of two high
technology silicone chip factories
in Japan. Details are somewhat
sketchy and client approval is still
awaited - here’s hoping.
From the USA will come
David Mardigian from MCM
Corporation, who will speak
about a major project the
company is currently working
on, namely the decommissioning
for the former Bethlehem Steel
Sparrow Point plant in Maryland.

Making a return will be
Brazil’s Fabio Bruno Pinto, who
will revisit the major selective
bridge implosion in the heart of
Rio de Janeiro. At the 2013 World
Demolition Summit, he discussed
the theory and planning behind
this project before work began.
With the majority now complete,
he will discuss the reality – did
the work go as smoothly as the
planning suggested it would?

KCME managing director
Makoto Kato commented: “This
event was a major milestone
for KCME. Since announcing
our official return to Europe
we have been working hard in
the background to build the
foundations for a strong and
successful business that will go
the distance. We are here to stay
and are focused on increasing
Kobelco’s market share in Europe.
The strong brand heritage and
product offerings give us the
perfect platform to do that but
the final piece of the jigsaw is
productive partnerships with the
right dealers. We believe we now
have that third element and we
are looking forward to providing
strong products and aftersales
support for our dealer partners
and their customers.”
