ACCESS, LIFT & HANDLERS
JULY-AUGUST 2014
APEX REVIEW
transport length is 9.9 m. The boom has a 540
degree rotation, while the cage is capable of 2 x
90 degree rotation.
Ruthmann debuted the 48 m working height
Stieger T480. It is a modified version of the
460. The company explained that in the past,
a 45 m to 46 m boom was fine, but now some
customers needed a little extra, and that was
achieved by less overlapping of the boom
cylinders when extended fully. It is the highest
model in the manufacturer’s Height Performance
range that it offers on a 2-axle truck.
There are now six models in the height
performance series with working heights from
38 m to 72 m.
CTE presented two truck-mounted articulated
booms at APEX. The ZED 20.2 is a 20 m
working height ‘electrohydraulic’ model. It has
a reduced footprint, enhanced stabilisation,
zero tail swing, and increased compactness,
says the manufacturer. It will be aimed at
the emerging markets. The new 20.7 m
working height ZED 21 JHV includes the
Italian company’s variable jacking stabilisation
system, introduced last year on the ZED 20.2
HV model. The system has four elements:
narrow or extended, and right or left side only.
Stacking up
Turning to another big machine – this
time a scissor – Holland Lift showed the
company’s first hybrid 27 m working height
M-250HYL254WD/P/N. It has a 1,000 kg
capacity and can drive at full height. The
machine is narrower at 2.5 m wide, rather than
the previous standard width of 2.7 m.
So far the company has sold up to 10
machines.
“We’ve questions about hybrids and a lot of
them were bought before the customers had
seen it. In the future all diesel machines will go
hybrid, everyone wants a machine that work
inside and outside,” Roos said.
APEX proved so successful, said the
manufacturer that by the end of the
exhibition, the company will have enough
work until 2015.
Year of the Horse
Chinese manufacturers continued their quest
in Europe at APEX, and there were a record five
manufacturers based in China exhibiting at the
show. Most of them report pretty good scissor
sales in the continent, but booms are only just
being introduced. In either case, the challenge is
attracting the attention of big rental companies
across Europe and beyond.
Susan Huang, sales director at Dingli, says
there were around 2500 scissors sold in Europe
over the last couple of years, and perhaps 100
booms.
“Many rental companies are interested, and
more and more people now know our brand,”
Huang said. “At the moment it is the medium-
sized companies that are interested but we want
to attract the big rental companies.”
In comparison, there are some 2,000 Dingli
scissors in China and a total worldwide presence
of up to 5,000 scissor lifts.
Runshare, on the other hand, has less than 10
units in Europe, it said. Its main export market is
South America, and it has a dealer in Brazil.
Italy’s CMC showcased its new S25, pictured

at APEX, its booth was buzzing.
