CranesBoomBoosterwas
undergoing testing at its
factory inGermany at the end
ofMarch, prior todelivery to
Sarens, the first customer of
this new technology.
Sarens, withheadquarters
inBelgium, was a keydriver
in thedevelopment of the
system, whichwas first
revealed in
ACT’
s sister
magazine

and SpecializedTransport
inDecember 2013. As one
of the largest heavy lifting,
crane rental and specialized
transport companies, Sarens
has theworld’s largest fleet of
CC8800-1 cranes.
Sarens is awaitingdelivery
of the first BoomBooster
kit and a secondunitwill
follow. Aprimary application
is erection,maintenance and
dismantlingof ultra large
wind turbines, for example,
theEnerconE-126. The
othermain application is the
petrochemical industry, for
erecting flare stacks, boiler
racks andmodules that
require a typical vessel lift
configuration. Configured as
pictured, with aheavyduty 12
meter fixed jibon an88meter
mainboom, capacity is 945
tons to a 20meter radius and
thehookheight is 94meters.
TheBoomBooster is
designed to combat the
limiting factor of lateral
deflection in a crane’s boom.
Itwidens the loadbearing
chords of the boom to
increase the limit givenby
lateral deflection.
It gives its greatest advantage
at steepboom angle
configurationswith a luffing
jib.
