Judging criteria

The judging criteria for the categories are:

Large Rental Company of the Year (turnover above €15 million)

For a large rental company that has demonstrated an excellent and improving performance in one or more areas of its business in 2021 and early 2022. This could include efforts to mitigate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, improvements to customer service, enhancements to employee training, notable fleet investment, financial performance, or new and successful initiatives.

Small Rental Company of the Year (turnover under €15 million)

For a small rental company that has demonstrated an excellent and improving performance in one or more areas of its business in 2021 and early 2022. This could include efforts to mitigate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, improvements to customer service, enhancements to employee training, notable fleet investment, financial performance, or new and successful initiatives.

Rental Product of the Year

This award will go to a new product introduced into Europe during the final months of 2020, during 2021, or early 2022 and will recognise a fantastic product that has benefitted rental businesses, either by offering operational benefits (such as improved ease of use or lower cost of maintenance) or new revenue streams (for a new product concept or new application).

Judges also take into account sustainability issues, looking at the product over its entire lifecycle, including manufacturing, operating costs, fuel economy, engine emissions and recycling. The award is open to any supplier that is selling its products in Europe.

ERA Technical Committee Award

This award will be assessed and decided by the ERA’s Technical Committee and no entries are called for.

The ERA Technical Committee Award is for a manufacturer who has done the most, in the view of the committee, to meet the needs of the rental industry. For example, manufacturers who have modified or designed machines in a way that reduces cost of ownership.

ERA Sustainability Committee Award: Best Carbon Reduction Initiative

The award will be assessed by the members of the ERA Sustainability Committee.

The Best Carbon Reduction Innovation Award will go to a single project or initiative within a rental company. This could encompass efforts by a rental company to reduce its own emissions, or those of its customers. Initiatives might include investment in low emission equipment, the use of electric or hybrid delivery vehicles, and strategies to engage with customers and suppliers on the subject of carbon reduction.

Best Digital Innovation in a Rental Company

This award is open to rental companies operating in Europe.

The award will recognise a digital innovation that enhances a rental business. This could include technology that makes rental operations more efficient – whether in sales, logistics or administrative functions - or which improves a rental company’s interactions with customers, such as a customer App or other customer service offering.

The judges will be looking for a digital development that really made a difference to a rental company during late 2022, during 2021 or early 2022.
