Sennebogen crawlers
on bridge demolition
Beyel dismantles at
Kennedy Space Center
Two 80 tonne capacity Sennebogen crawler cranes helped
prepare the Sinntal Bridge in Germany for explosive
demolition.
The Sinntal Bridge is one of the largest autobahn
bridges in Germany. It is 770 metres long, has a height of
50 m and weighs more than 6,500 tonnes.
Demolition company Plannerer, Pullenreuth, was the
main contractor for the project. The company used the
683 R-HD telescopic crawler cranes to move 16 tonne
segments from the upper structure of the bridge, which
had been cut into pieces by welders. The crawlers were also
used in the drilling of detonation bores in the concrete
pylons for explosive charges.
Following demolition, the crawler cranes cleared the
debris. A new replacement bridge was reconstructed earlier
this year.
Florida, USA-based Beyel Brothers, the parent company of Beyel
Brothers Crane and Rigging, has helped dismantle an overhead crane
in the Shuttle Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB), at the Kennedy
Space Center. The company had previously installed the overhead
crane in the 1970s.
For the dismantling project Beyel used a 400 US ton (350 tonne)
capacity Terex AC 350/6 all terrain crane. The all terrain had 116.7
tonnes of counterweight and was configured with a 40.7 m boom. In
this set up it was able to remove the overhead crane from the 160 m tall
building. Other lifts included removing the girders, which weighed 26.5
US tons (24 tonnes) and 20 US tons (18.1-tonnes) each, to the floor.
Due to strict lifting safety standards required by NASA, the
AC 350/6 had to stay within 75% of its load chart, a company
spokesperson added.

First job for 4,000 tonne XCMG crawler
The XCMG model XGC88000 4,000 tonne
capacity level crawler crane has performed its
first job in Yantai, lifting a propylene tower in
Wanhua Industrial Park, China.
The propylene tower weighed 1,680 tonnes
and was 118 metres tall and 14.4 m wide.
The XGC88000, which has a maximum load
moment rating of 88,000 tonne-metres, was
configured with an 108 m heavy boom and 33
m fixed jib. A new 1,000 tonne XGW1100 was
used alongside the crawler for tailing.
The lift, which was carried out on 5 July
2013, took four hours to complete and was
watched by more than 100 project leaders and
guests from Sinopec and Xuzhou Construction
Machinery Group, the manufacturer said.
