Indeed, our lead interview with Byrne Equipment Rental chief operating officer Patrick
Fallon sheds some light on the fast-paced rental market in theMiddle East, and looks at how
the company is targetinggrowth in the region’s fledglinghire industries for the comingyear.
Itwas interesting forme tohearMr Fallon’s thoughts ondiversifying the company’s fleet -
he said2014hadbeenayearof growthandchange for thecompany, withmanyof itscountry
teams relocating intomuch larger operational facilities around the region, and 2015 would
see the company not only replace existing equipment, but also increase its fleet size by
investing innewproducts and services.
Significantly, the company has already started introducing heavy plant equipment and
cranes along with blast resistant buildings and other industry specific products to better
serve the oil andgas sector, he explained.
Diversifying like this certainly makes sense in such an oil and gas-rich region, but is also
typical of a long-standing trend in the rental industry that has seencompaniesbroaden their
reachbeyond core construction.
Also definitely worth a look in this issue is our report on Ramirent and Zeppelin’s bid to
serve one of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects, the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link. This is
diversificationof adifferent order – two rival companies forming a joint venturepartnership
that will help them achieve cross-border collaboration.
The innovative deal would see the companies share services and the knowledge of the
labourmarkets andbusiness practices inboth countries. It is a trulydynamicwayof bidding
for a large contract like this, and it will certainly be interesting to see what the outcome is
and to follow this project as it progresses.
