HIGHLIGHTS
New tripleboomsystem fromTadano
Performance has been
increased by asmuch as
30% onmanufacturer
Liebherr’s upgraded 750 tonne
capacity LR 1750 lattice boom
crawler crane. A strengthened
main boom andmodified
derrick system give the higher
load capacity on the new
LR 1750/2. The crane now
offersmuch better value for
money, themanufacturer said.
Its derrick boom is extended by
7metres to 38.5m. In linewith
the heavy boom kit for the
LR 1600/2 the strengthened
boom on theLR 1750/2has
an “H” for “heavy” suffix. Also
modified is the ballast trailer,
whichnowhas hydraulic drive
to improve handling. Additional
workplatforms, access
points and extended railings
are included also included.
Components of theLR 1750 can
be used on the newLR 1750/2,
Liebherr said.

BoomSystem is going to
change the cranebusiness.”
It is the first eight axle all
terrain crane thatwon’t have
aboom suspension system
to enhance capacity, the
manufacturer said. Instead it
uses a central telescopicboom
that ispermanently flanked
by smaller round tubular
telescopic supports running
parallel to it along its length,
spacedoff it togive stiffness.
Thomas Schramm, Tadano
generalmanagerof sales and
marketing, cites competitive
advantages for craneowners,
of thenewdesign, “Elimination
of additional transport for
theboom suspension system,
increased rental timesdue
to time saved in rigging, as
well as a significantly smaller
tail swing radius foruse in
tight construction sites, all
contribute to the efficiencyof
thisnew crane.”
AlexanderKnecht, Tadano
chairman said, “In termsof
product strategy, “the large
eight-axle cranewas the logical
sequel to the successful launch
of the400 tonne crane three
years ago. Tadanowanted to
offer a completeproduct range.”
At the timeofwriting the

Shell installation
byMammoet
International heavy lifting and
specialized transport company
Mammoet completed the
installationof anew typeof
oil&gas industryplatform for
Shell in thePhilippines.
In the latest stageof the
MalampayaPhase3Depletion
CompressionPlatformproject,
Mammoet installed the
platform in theWest Philippine
Sea in a48hour operation.
TheMalampayaDCP is
anew typeof self-installing
platform,Mammoet said. It
is floated intoplaceover its
final location and the legs are
loweredonto theprepared
seabed.Apre-installed jacking
system jacks theplatformon
80metre legs to lift it from the
water. It avoids theneed for the
large specializedvessels that
arenormally required for an
offshoreplatform installation.
Mammoetwas involved
in theDCP’s construction,
assistingwith lifting and
lowering theplatform.During
theplatform’s construction, the
strand jackswere also installed
toprepare for the jackdownof
theDCP’s legs and to raise the
platform intoplace.
Tokeep theplatform level,
someof the strand jacksmake
upwardmovements at the
same time asothers aremoving
down,Mammoet said.Helping
to achieve thiswere “guying
valves” and anew computer
system to create tension and
control platformmovement on
thewater.
