California for amajorwindproject inMexico

inCalifornia,USA. The first phase of
the project is expected to cost around
US$300million and is beingbuilt in
Ejido Jacumé, northof LaRumorosa. It
will have 47Vestas turbines, eachwith a
3.3MW capacity.
Transport companyTradelossawas
hiredbyVestas to transport the sections,
includinghubs, nacelles, blades, tower
sections anddrive trains, fromPlaster
City, California,USA toLaRumorosa
inMexico.
Theheaviest components tobemoved
were the tower sections and thenacelles,
whichweighed70US tons (63 tonnes)
each. Each tower sectionwas 22.8metres
long, 4.3mwide and3.9mhigh, while

heLaRumorosawindproject in
BajaCalifornia,Mexico, is being
built by SempraGeneration, a
subsidiaryof SempraEnergy. Itwill have
the capacity to generate enough electricity
topower around438,000homes.
Thewind farm is a joint operation
betweenUSA andMexico governments to
help increase theuse of alternative energy
sources, such as solar andwind. Electricity
