survey – our ‘flagship’
feature. We hope that it stimulates the usual debate anddiscussion.
This year’s survey is notable for the continuing upwards trajectory of North
America’s rental companies: it says everything about the rental market that all five of the
new entrants to the survey this year are based inNorthAmerica.
As thesurveyshows, it ismore than just theAtlantic that separatesAmericanandEuropean
rental companies at themoment: while the average growth rate of US businesses in the list
exceeded 10%, the same figure for Europe was 2%. In truth, 2% remained a tough growth
target for rental companies in France, Spain and Italy last year.
Still, Europe’s rental sector can take comfort from the latest ERA/
IRN
RentalTracker survey
for the first quarter of 2014 – also in this issue - which showed a continuationof the positive
trend inbusiness sentiment evident at theendof 2013. Companies in theUKandGermany, as
well asmultinational firms, were themost likely tobe reporting improving conditions.
Also in this issue we provide further details of the many companies exhibiting at the
International Rental Exhibition (IRE) at the Amsterdam RAI venue on 24-26 June, as well as
the adjoining ERAConvention and EuropeanRental Awards.

Helen Wright. Having edited the magazine since its launch the time was right for some
fresh energy and ideas: Helen, as a popular and successful Deputy Editor at our sister titles

, is the perfect appointment for the
magazine.
I remain very much involved as Managing Editor, and will also be taking on a new role as
Events Director at KHL Group, but Helenwill be responsible for the day-to-day editing of the
magazine. I am sure that shewill enjoy the task asmuch as I have, andwish her well in her
newposition.
